Original Texas Chili
Whatcha Need:
- 2 lbs. ground beef
- 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
- 2 (8 oz.) cans water (equivalent to 2 cups)
- Salt, to taste
- 1 package - Carroll Shelby's® Chili Kit
Whatcha Do:
- Brown ground beef in a large skillet. Drain fat.
- Add tomato sauce, water, chili spice packet and salt (to your own taste).
- To Fix It Mild, omit the cayenne pepper packet. To Fix It Hot, add the whole cayenne pepper packet. Stir.
- Cover and simmer for 15 minutes.
- For thicker chili, mix the masa packet with 1/3 cup water, stir it in and simmer for 5 more minutes.
To Fix It How Ya Like It, try these ideas:
- Add chopped onion or green peppers when browning the beef
- Replace one of the cans of water (or 1 cup of water) with a 14 oz. can of diced tomatoes
- Add a 15 oz. can of kidney or pinto beans during the last 5 minutes of cooking
- Top it off with shredded cheese, sour cream or diced tomatoes
- Serve the chili over taco salads, hot dogs, spaghetti or hamburgers
